Your Guide to Reels 2022

Posted by Lucia Campolucci-Bordi on

By now you’ll know what Instagram Reels are and how important they can be to your page’s growth and content.

Posting Reels is now so valuable, but posting them in the right way is what’s going to be the difference between good and great /viral reach.

The Instagram Reels algorithm currently favours Reels that:

  1. Have high engagement (such as comments, likes, shares, saves, and watch time).
  2. Use creative tools like text, filter, or camera effects.
  3. Have vertical dimensions.
  4. Use music from the Instagram music library and/or original audio you create or find on Reels.

These are great criteria to ensuring you have a good chance with the algorithm, and what will get you off to the best start is creating content that fits your page with these in mind.

How to create a reel for your page:

  • Research - what does your audience want to see, what would help or entertain your current followers, what topic makes sense for you page, what kind of content gets the most engagement currently?
  • Plan out your reel - Where do you need to shoot the video, what are you going to say, will you be adding text to your video, do you need to plan a day ahead (day in the life)…
  • Shoot in high quality and portrait mode- make sure you use a good quality camera, and set up with good lighting that gets what you’re shooting very clearly
  • Put your video/s together - add your content to the reels section of Instagram, and add any edits/text/effects you need to
  • Keep it short - keep your video to only a few seconds long (no more than 30 seconds)
  • Choose your audio/music - Try to choose a trending audio that matches your video and general branding
  • Post at your engagement hour (you can find this in your insights)
